The Republic of Nauru announced Monday that it will recognize the one-China principle and sever "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan region. China appreciates and welcomes the decision and is ready to work with the country to open new chapters of bilateral relations on the basis of the one-China principle, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on the same day.

CGTN Stringer went to the largest local supermarket and interviewed two residents. A supermarket supervisor said that he has many Chinese friends and is interested in Chinese culture. "We welcome Chinese people and they should come and visit Nauru," he said.
