The Arab League will hold an emergency meeting over Iran's attack on Iraq's Erbil, the Iraqi state news agency reported on Wednesday, citing the foreign ministry.

The agency did not mention the date of the session.

Iran, late on Monday, struck Erbil, the capital of Iraq's semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan, with ballistic missiles in what it said was an attack on an Israeli spy headquarters, claims vehemently denied by Iraqi and Iraqi Kurdish officials.

The Kurdistan Region Security Council later said four people were killed.

In protest of the attack, Kurdistan regional Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday cancelled a meeting with Iran's foreign minister at the World Economic Forum at Davos in Switzerland.

And on Tuesday, Iran's charge d'affaires was summoned by Iraq's Foreign Ministry over the attack with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid saying it undermines the security of both Iraq and the region as a whole.
