The 1992 Consensus is the common political foundation for dialogues and consultations across the Taiwan Straits, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for China's State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a press conference on Wednesday.

By adhering to the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle, the two sides can carry out communication and dialogue, Chen said, adding that there could be no dialogue or exchanges without it.

Chen said that the cross-Straits trade has remained at a high level and enterprises in Taiwan region continue to be optimistic about the mainland market, while the number of projects invested in the mainland by Taiwan businessmen have also increased significantly.

In 2024, the Chinese mainland will continue to promote the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and the peaceful reunification of the motherland, promote cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation in all areas, expand personnel exchanges and deepen cross-Straits integrated development, Chen said.
