An explosion at a fireworks factory in Thailand's central Suphan Buri province killed at least 23 people on Wednesday, according to local media. 

The incident occurred in the afternoon, about 120 km north of Bangkok, police said, and its cause remains unclear. 

Pictures shared by Thai media showed black smoke at the scene near some paddy fields.
