Oriental white storks have been spotted at the Danhe National Wetland Park in Jincheng City, north China's Shanxi Province. The elegant bird is a rare species under the first level of national protection in China. The wetland's improving environment lures more than 30 species of migratory birds every winter. A wetland along the Yellow River in Pinglu County has also welcomed tens of thousands of pochards and some white mergansers.
