A total of 1,558 tourists and 445 vehicles stranded by heavy snowstorms and avalanches in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region exited safely as a section of a road linking the village in the well-known Kanas scenic area that was blocked in by snow was cleared. Multiple rounds of snowfall swept the Kanas scenic area since January 6, resulting in several avalanches that blocked roads connecting the scenic area with outside regions. A total of 350 kilometers of roads were impacted by snow avalanches. Local residents and tourists were stranded in Hemu Village.
