"In the first game, our players definitely grappled with immense pressure, which resulted in many poor mistakes on the pitch. As we gear up for the second match, our objective is to enhance our ball possession and adeptly navigate the intricacies of handling pressure."

Following a disappointing goalless draw against the lower-ranked Tajikistan to start their Asian Cup campaign, China head coach Aleksandar Jankovic opted to downplay expectations ahead of their encounter with another underdog Lebanon. The subsequent display on the pitch only served to justify his cautionary approach.

Despite managing to secure another 0-0 draw, the uninspiring Chinese performance, devoid of any fluidity or enterprise, has raised huge concerns about the potential humiliation of an early elimination at the group stage.

The match on Wednesday night was largely evenly contested, with Lebanon, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to Qatar in their opener, hitting the woodwork twice and China having an effort cleared off the line. However, it ultimately ended in another dispiriting result for Jankovic's struggling side.

In stark contrast, Qatar emerged as the first team to advance to the knockout stages of the tournament after a 1-0 victory over Tajikistan later in the day. Akram Afif's third goal in two games secured the win and ensured that the hosts and defending champions progressed as group winners.

With six points from their first two outings, Qatar have had a flawless start. On the other hand, China, with two points, will have to wait until the final round of matches in this group on Monday to determine their fate.

"We faced a formidable opponent today, and although we couldn't secure a win, I want to emphasize that our team showed great resilience, a positive attitude, and fought with all their might," insisted Jankovic. "The road ahead is still long. We have one more game remaining, and our goal remains unchanged - to advance to the knockout stage."

There is still a glimmer of hope for China to progress, either by securing the runners-up spot or by being among the top four third-placed teams, provided they avoid defeat against Qatar and the result of the Tajikistan vs. Lebanon match goes in their favor. However, even if China manage to scrape through, it might be an uphill battle to lift the spirits of their pitiful supporters.
