Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on Thursday spoke highly of the strategic importance of cooperation between the two countries as they met in Brasilia.
During the meeting, Vieira noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brazil and China, which is of special significance.
Brazil-China relations have continued to develop steadily over recent years, with areas of cooperation continuing to expand, he said.
The Brazilian side is looking forward to taking the opportunity of hosting the 2024 G20 Rio de Janeiro summit to strengthen high-level exchanges between Brazil and China, inject strong impetus into bilateral relations, and lead Brazil-China friendly cooperation into the next 50 years with broader prospects, said Vieira.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China cherishes the friendship between the two countries.
China is ready to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil as an opportunity to prepare for high-level exchanges in the next stage and plan the celebrations for the anniversary, so as to take the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level with new vitality and prospects, he said.
Wang said China supports Brazil in hosting the G20 summit, and in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs.
China is ready to work with Brazil to build a world with lasting peace, universal security, openness and inclusiveness and common prosperity and a world that is clean and beautiful, so as to protect the one and only planet where humans live, said Wang.
