Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced that the Noto Peninsula earthquake has been designated as an "emergency disaster" under the Large-Scale Disaster Reconstruction Act, Jiji Press reported Friday.
So far, 232 people have been confirmed dead and 22 others remain missing after the earthquake rocked the island country on New Year's Day.
