The current tense situation in the Red Sea shows the spillover effect of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, and the priority now is to stop the conflict as soon as possible and prevent it from further escalation or even getting out of control, Chinese Foreign Minister spokesperson Mao Ning said on Friday.
In response to the current situation in the Red Sea at a regular press briefing, Mao said the waters of the Red Sea are an important international trade route for goods and energy.
China calls for an end to the harassment of civilian vessels to safeguard unimpeded global industrial and supply chains and international trade order, she said.
Noting that the UN Security Council has never authorized any country to use force against Yemen, she said it is necessary to refrain from taking any actions that will "add fuel to the fire" in the Red Sea and raise the overall security risks in the region.
