The seventh edition of the Northeast Asia Racing Carnival began in Yanji City, northeast China's Jilin Province on Saturday. One of its major events is the ice rally that attracts 180 racers and 120 cars from all over the country to compete on the 46.6-kilometer-long ice course.
As winter sports continue to grow increasingly popular in China, different provinces are creating innovative ways to add their own spin to sports events. Jilin, where temperature drops below minus 20 degrees Celsius in winter, is well-known for its frozen rivers and lakes with ice thick enough to withstand the pounding of many rally cars.
