People from the Dai, Bulang, De'ang and other ethnic groups celebrate the traditional Water Splashing Festival in April to mark their New Year. It's the most important festival for the Dai ethnic group. During the festival, Dai people dress in traditional costumes and take part in a variety of activities for a grand celebration, such as dragon boat races, water splashing events, setting off fireworks, and cultural performances. The event attracts millions of visitors to come and enjoy the festive atmosphere together, splashing water on each other to ward off sickness and disaster and obtain blessings.
