At least 21 students were injured on Monday following a stampede at a secondary school in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde, according to an official.
Emmanuel Djikdent, prefect of Mfoundi division, where Yaounde is located, said the stampede happened at Lycee Etoug-Ebe, a government-run secondary school, when students were struggling to get to classes.
"No one died. There were only minor injuries. The doctor asked that we observe some of them until 2:00 p.m.," Djikdent told a crowd of worried parents and students when he visited the school.
"We are asking the parents of the students to return home. The 21 students taken to the hospital are doing well," he added.
