China hopes all parties at the United Nations (UN) reviewing the country's human rights records would be non-politicized and constructive, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday at a regular press briefing.

The UN Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group had began to examine China's human rights record in a meeting in Geneva on Tuesday.

The Universal Periodic Review is an important platform under the UN framework for fair and candid exchanges, constructive dialogue and cooperation on human rights issues, Wang said.

China attaches great importance to the review and always does its work in participating in the UPR according to UN procedures, he said.

The spokesperson said China pursues a people-centered human rights philosophy, put people's well-being at the center of human rights, and has embarked on a path of human rights development that is in keeping with the trend of the times and suited to its own national conditions.

China has made historic achievements in the cause of human rights, and the people's sense of gain, happiness and security has been constantly enhanced, he added.

China's human rights record was previously reviewed by the UPR in 2009, 2013 and 2018.
