A girl trapped in her collapsed home was rescued by local border police in a village in the Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake jolted the region at 2:09 a.m. on January 23.
The earthquake was felt in various cities and prefectures across Xinjiang, including Urumqi, Hotan, and Kashgar. Residents in its capital, Urumqi, reported that they felt the tremors even on the 17th floor.
