According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, a magnitude-7.1 earthquake jolted Wushi County in Aksu Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 2:09 a.m. on Tuesday. A number of aftershocks have since occurred near the epicenter. China's Office of the State Council Earthquake Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management have activated a level-3 emergency response after the earthquake.
