A magnitude-7.1 earthquake jolted Wushi County in Aksu Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 2:09 a.m. on Tuesday at a depth of 22 km.
Six people have been reported injured and rescue workers have been dispatched to the affected area for search and rescue operations and disaster relief.
Dozens of aftershocks were registered on Tuesday, with the biggest measured at magnitude 5.3.
