China's teenage skaters dominate short track 1,000, mixed team relay at Gangwon 2024

As of January 24, Team China bagged four golds, seven silvers and one bronze during the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

All four golds were from Chinese skaters in short track speed skating. Short track rising star Yang Jingru won the women's 1,500m on January 20, giving China their first gold medal at Gangwon 2024. The 17-year-old Chinese skater also took the women's 1,000m silver on January 21.

Also in short track speed skating, Zhang Xinzhe clinched the 1,000m gold on January 21 and two silver medals in men's 1,500m on January 20 and 500m on January 22. The 16-year-old Chinese skater joined compatriots Yang Jingru, Zhang Bohao and Li Jinzi to take the mixed team relay gold on January 24.

At the age of 16, Li Jinzi claimed the gold medal in the women's 1,000m on January 21 and the 1,500m silver on January 20. In freestyle skiing, Han Linshan took the slopestyle silver on January 24. In speed skating, Liu Yunqi took the women's 1,500m silver on January 23.

Pan Baoshuo lost in the men's 1,500m final to Finn Sonnekalb of Germany, who snatched his second gold in speed skating after winning the 500m title on January 23.
