As tensions escalate in Gaza, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has criticized Israel's plan to destroy Hamas as "not working" and has accused Israel of financing Hamas to "weaken the Palestinian Authority of Fatah." In an interview with CGTN, Kawa Hassan, a non-resident fellow of the MENA Program at the Stimson Center, suggests that Borrell's accusation reflects his frustration with the EU's inaction and absence. Hassan further asserts that efforts to normalize relations between Arab countries and Israel have been unsuccessful due to the lack of attention given to the Palestinian issue. While a two-state solution remains the most viable alternative, Hassan emphasizes the need to establish the necessary conditions for both Israel and Palestine to accept this solution.
