A fire broke out in a street-side building in east China's Jiangxi Province on Wednesday afternoon, killing 39 people and injuring nine. Authorities say the fire occurred in a basement cold storage unit which was under renovation. Workers violating safety protocols is what is believed to have caused the fire. Police are investigating 12 people in connection with the fire. Meanwhile, the city's education bureau has conducted a "blanket search" for fire hazards in schools with focus on boarding facilities, and have ordered all after-school training centers to suspend operations.
