China and Nauru reestablished diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level on January 23, after the Pacific island nation decided to sever "diplomatic ties" with the Taiwan region's authorities. China Media Group interviewed Wang Xuguang, the leader of the Chinese embassy reopening team in Nauru. He shared his thoughts on the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Nauru.
"In the words of the Nauruan president, this is a significant political decision focusing on the historical trend. It is a decision made by the Nauruan government after going through careful consideration, which means that this decision is a solemn political commitment and it will not be changed easily," said Wang.
