Former U.S. President Donald Trump testified on Thursday in a New York courtroom in a defamation court case brought by writer E. Jean Carroll, who alleges he sexually assaulted her in a dressing room in the 1990s.

Trump's appearance in the New York courtroom came after he had won the Republican primary in New Hampshire. His testimony in the case ended minutes after it began, with him standing by his earlier testimony that Carroll's claim of rape was a hoax, as reported by local media.

Trump spent only four minutes on the witness stand after U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, who oversaw both trials, stated that he would not permit "do-overs by disappointed litigants" and let Trump revisit the first jury's findings, Reuters reports.

The first jury concluded that Trump defamed Carroll and sexually abused her. Judge Kaplan noted that these findings were binding in the current trial, as reported in the Reuters article.

The trial lasted four days, and closing arguments are expected on Friday, the report added.
