The second China's national survey of ancient and famous trees resources shows that there are a total of 5.0819 million ancient and famous trees across the country, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
Ancient and famous trees are defined as trees that have high historical, cultural, scientific and economic value.
In September 2023, China launched a big data platform for the management of ancient and famous trees across China, which aims to facilitate the smart management of the country's ancient and famous trees. All the data of ancient and famous trees have been uploaded to the platform currently, and a nationwide distribution map of the trees has been initially formed.
