Multiple countries suspend funding for UNRWA

The UK, Italy, Canada, Australia, and Finland have followed the lead of the U.S. to suspend additional funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) over Israel's accusations that 12 employees had been involved in Hamas' attack on October 7. This was despite the agency saying on Friday that it had fired several staff over the accusations, promising a thorough investigation into the claims, which were not specified.

Israel vowed Saturday to stop the UN agency at the heart of humanitarian efforts in Gaza from operating after the war.

"UNRWA will not be a part of the day after," Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on X, adding that he was trying to gather support from the U.S., the European Union and other major donors to the agency.

Hamas, in a post on Telegram on Saturday, urged the United Nations and other international organizations not to "cave in to the threats and blackmail" from Israel.
