China has delivered a good performance in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) conducted by the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council, Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva, said on Friday during an interview with Xinhua News Agency.

China has won the largest battle against poverty in human history, lifted nearly 100 million rural population out of poverty, he said, noting that the country had met the poverty eradication target set out in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule.

China has built the world's largest education, social security and medical and health-care systems, and made historic progress in terms of education accessibility, Chen noted.

Across the country, old-age insurance covers 1.06 billion people and the basic healthcare security coverage rate reached 95 percent of its population, Chen said.

Earlier on Friday, recommendations made to China were adopted by the 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council's UPR Working Group in Geneva.

China took part in the fourth round of the UPR this week.

China is ready to collaborate with the global community to steadfastly advance and safeguard human rights, Chen said after the adoption.

The diplomat said China will play an active role in global human rights governance, advocate for common human values, support the establishment of a global community of shared future, and collaborate to create a better improved world.

2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, noted Chen, adding that China aims to ensure that the benefits of modernization are distributed more fairly among its people, enhance protection of human rights, and support free and comprehensive development of individuals.

UPR serves as a crucial platform for countries to engage in equitable and candid discussions on human rights matters within the framework of the UN, fostering constructive dialogue and collaboration. China participated in previous three reviews in 2009, 2013 and 2018 respectively.
