At least 14 people have died and one is missing after a boat capsized in eastern Rwanda, an official said on Sunday.

The accident occurred on Friday evening on Lake Mugesera in Rwamagana District and there were 46 passengers on board.

The district mayor, Radjab Mbonyumuvunyi, said the boat was overloaded with passengers and agricultural produce including maize and beans, as several people were returning from harvesting their produce across the river.
