China's Commerce Ministry on Tuesday called on the U.S. to stop harassing Chinese companies and business people and provide them with a safe, transparent and fair business environment.
The remark came on the heels of recent media reports about raids on Chinese enterprises in the U.S., interrogating Chinese personnel engaged in business activities in the country and seizing and checking their mobile phones, computers and other personal equipment.
These acts "seriously affect normal business activities and undermine the confidence of Chinese enterprises in investing in the U.S.," the Chinese ministry said in a statement.
"China will closely follow the development of the situation and firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and citizens," the ministry warned.
