Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun held a video call with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu on Wednesday, with the two sides pledging to bring their military relations to a new high under the strategic guidance of leaders of both countries.

Stressing that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era has maintained a high level of development, Dong pointed out that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He called on the two sides to implement the important consensus of the heads of state of the two countries, resolutely respond to global challenges, constantly enhance strategic mutual trust, continue to expand pragmatic cooperation and push the relationship between the two militaries to a higher level.

Dong also urged joint efforts to deepen bilateral comprehensive strategic coordination and maintain global security and stability.

Shoigu, for his part, said that under the guidance of the two heads of state, Russia-China relations are at the best level in history.

Russia is ready to work with China to take this year's 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties as a new starting point to innovate the areas and modes of cooperation between the two militaries and to push relations between the two countries and two militaries to a new level.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.
