How Xi Jinping encourages tea culture exchanges through BRI

04:06

In February 2018, preceding the Chinese New Year, Chinese President Xi Jinping inspected a tea-making workshop in Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County, southwest China's Sichuan Province. During the visit, he gained insights into the local tea industry's role in promoting regional prosperity.

President Xi encouraged the locals to export their dark tea, contributing more to the building of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Over the subsequent years, Jiang Weiming, the owner of the tea-making workshop, kept Xi's instructions in mind. By integrating traditional intangible cultural heritage tea-making techniques with modern scientific management and continually refining the tea's flavor through independent research and development, Jiang propelled a series of products featuring dark tea, complemented with other types of tea and honeysuckle flowers, onto the world stage. These products have been sold to more than 20 countries under the BRI.

Jiang said, "President Xi encouraged me to contribute more to the building of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is a great cause. What I can do is make more people around the world fall in love with Chinese tea culture – and China, too."
