01:06

In Xizang Autonomous Region, horse-racing festivals are an important part of the traditional way of life. The most celebrated of them is the Qiaqing Gesar Horse-racing Festival in Nagchu. Every summer, riders, horses and their trainers come from near and far, crossing mountains and rivers, to attend what is the largest event of its kind in northern Xizang and on the entire Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Tibetans are passionate about horse racing, and this festival is widely considered to be not only a celebration of horsemanship, but also an opportunity for the horses to win glory for themselves. But behind the color and excitement of the festival lie months and years of hard training for horses and riders alike. To mark Tibetan New Year, let's join in a celebration of the region's horse-racing culture.
