China has released eight measures to prevent accidents and reduce hazards in mines. In a news conference on Thursday, officials said the aim is to tackle the rise in mining incidents in recent months. The first measure outlines responsibilities and requirements for workplace safety. The second to sixth measures aim to eliminate risks and illegal production, improve worker skillsets and enhance licensing regulations. The last two measures aim to ensure that proper supervision and training are in place to prevent further risks. The Ministry of Natural Resources says the majority of coal-mining facilities are underground in China. Officials say the new measures will further specify responsibilities and hold production companies accountable for workplace safety.
