Golden harvest: Inside China's 'home of tangerines'

03:05

Potted tangerine trees are a quintessential New Year's tradition in southern China. Residents decorate their homes with the fruit to wish for success and abundance in the coming year. In Foshan, the town of Chencun has a 1,000-year history of growing tangerines. Today, it's responsible for producing 80 percent of the country's total supply. Recently, the winner of Chencun's "King of Tangerines" contest was announced: a towering single tree measuring 3.8 meters high and 2 meters wide. In keeping with traditions, the winning tree has been auctioned off for charity, for an auspicious 79,999 yuan (roughly $11,000), a record number.
