February 4 marks the beginning of the first solar term of the Chinese lunar year: Lichun. The southwestern city of Chengdu will host a public event to mark the start of Lichun on Sunday. The event will see more than a dozen tables offering a feast of Chinese hotpot set up along Kuanzhai Alley, a popular tourist destination in the capital of southwestern Sichuan Province. Guests will welcome in the Chinese New Year while enjoying folk performances and delicious local food.

The event will also feature a lantern lighting ceremony and displays of local folk customs. Among the highlights is a performance inspired by the "Twelve Market Fair," which dates back to the Tang and Song dynasties. Since ancient times, every month, the city has held a themed market fair, and regular monthly gatherings to sell Sichuan specialties.

CGTN reporters Liu Yang, Xu Xinchen, Zheng Songwu and Guo Tianqi will join Chengdu Plus reporter Li Jiatian and Music Streamer Filip from Poland to host a 90-minute social media livestream from the special event. Join them to learn more about Chengdu, its people and traditions as they celebrate the arrival of the Chinese New Year.
