U.S. President Joe Biden won South Carolina's Democratic primary on Saturday in the latest step in his reelection bid.

The Associated Press declared Biden the winner at 7:23 p.m. based on an analysis of initial vote results showing him with a decisive lead in key locations throughout the state. He won all 55 of the state's Democratic delegates.

Biden's easy victory follows his support for an unprecedented decision by the Democratic National Committee to prioritize South Carolina as the initial voting state over New Hampshire in the presidential primary.

He resurrected his 2020 presidential campaign after a strong primary performance in South Carolina.

Biden's reelection campaign invested heavily in increasing turnout as a test of its efforts to motivate Black voters, a vital Democratic bloc crucial to Biden's chances in a possible November rematch with former President Donald Trump, the AP report added.

South Carolina is reliably Republican, but 26 percent of its residents are Black. According to AP VoteCast, an expansive survey of 2020 voters, Black voters accounted for 11 percent of the national electorate, with nine in 10 supporting Biden.
