Zhang Jiaqi and Huang Jianjie on Saturday won China's first diving gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships in the mixed synchronized 10m platform with a score of 353.82 points. Earlier in the day, artistic swimmer Xu Huiyan won China's first medal in Doha when she finished third in the women's solo technical event.
"I give myself a nine out of ten today. The quality of the last jump was not good enough. I aimed at the gold medal this time, and I thought I'd be fine if I delivered my usual quality from training," said 13-year-old Huang, who is the only diver in the Chinese squad making a debut at the event. China's diving roster consists of 13 athletes, among whom 12 are world champions, and six are Olympic champions.
Meanwhile, Olympic champion Zhang was happy with the duo's performance.
"We're very happy to contribute the first gold to the team," said the 19-year-old.
