The young Xinjiang Uygur band, Oghuz, was founded in Beijing in 2021. The band consists of three members from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and two from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. They are working on a creative blend of rock music featuring ethnic melodies. Founder and vocalist Memetjan Metqasim sees this as an important way to preserve ethnic music while introducing a new form of music to a wider audience. The Vibe spoke to the band about their musical journey.
