Melodies of Nature Series Ep. 2: Xishuangbanna, a mysterious land

CGTN

05:26

This is an oasis on the Tropic of Cancer called Xishuangbanna. Before the 1960s, the world used to believe that rainforests were limited to the tropics. Later, field surveys in Xishuangbanna revealed species of the Dipterocarpaceae family and other indicator plants of the tropical rainforest. That's how we knew that there're rainforests north of the equator. Let's go and explore the mysterious land!

About Journeys in Nature: Melodies of Nature Series

Xishuangbanna, located in southwest China's Yunnan Province, is home to one of China's largest tropical rainforests with impressive biodiversity. Multiple ethnic groups, such as Dai, Hani and Lahu, live there as well. Doudou, a wildlife photographer and an environmentalist, came to the forest with friends from different walks of life to collect the sounds of local fauna and flora, as well as the sounds of indigenous ethnic instruments, to explore the human-nature relationship.
