Dianchi Lake is the mother lake of Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province. In the late 1980s, the lake became murky due to industrial and domestic waste. To address this, the central government and Yunnan provincial authorities implemented measures to restore its lost splendor after decades of severe pollution.
