Giant panda cubs in NW China 'extend New Year greetings' to people

A group of seven giant panda cubs gathered for a specially arranged event at the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center in northwest China's Shaanxi Province to "extend Chinese New Year greetings" to people on Tuesday.

The seven cubs were born at the breeding base in 2023, with five male and two female pandas. Among them, three pairs are twins, and two pairs of twins were born on a same day, setting a historical record for the births of four giant pandas on a same day at the research center.

The weights of giant panda cubs range from 9 kilograms to 12 kilograms. Some still require gentle coaxing from the nursery staff while drinking milk, and others have already mastered the art of holding bottles. In terms of personality, some cubs are more inclined towards playful exploration, while others prefer quieter demeanor.

"The Qinling giant panda cubs are extending their Lunar New Year blessings to everyone, wishing everyone happiness and good fortune in the Lunar New Year. Happy Chinese New Year and good luck in the Year of the Dragon," said breeders in the research center.
