Gan Yu, spokesperson for the China Coast Guard, says Philippine coast guard vessel 9701 illegally trespassed into the waters adjacent to China's Huangyan Island on a number of occasions, from February 2 to 9. In the case its warnings were ignored, the China Coast Guard took route control and drove the Philippine vessel away in accordance with the law. The situation was handled professionally. China asserts indisputable sovereignty over the island and its adjacent waters, as well as sovereign rights and jurisdiction over relevant waters. China has always firmly opposed the Philippines' infringements and will resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
