China is witnessing a consumption and travel surge during the eight-day Spring Festival holiday from February 10 to 17.
The Chinese film market kick-started the holiday on a high note. The accumulated box office has crossed 4 billion yuan ($556.2 million) as of press time. The box office revenue for the first three days totaled 3.5 billion yuan.
Chinese comedy film "YOLO" led the domestic daily box office chart, grossing nearly 1.2 billion yuan, data from the Chinese online ticketing platform Maoyan showed.
A record 9 billion domestic passenger trips are expected during the 40-day holiday travel rush, from January 26 to March 5.
From Chinese New Year's Eve, February 9, to February 11, the total visits to China's key business districts reached 15.62 million, a year-on-year increase of 111 percent.
On the first day of the holiday, travel orders more than doubled over the previous year, and ticket orders more than tripled.
