Both Real Madrid and Manchester City secured wins in the first-leg games of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday, but the two heavyweights suffered injuries to key players.

City beat Copenhagen 3-1 at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark. Kevin de Bruyne scored the first and third goals for the reigning champions and assisted Bernardo Silva for their second goal. Though Magnus Mattsson tied the score for the home team at 1-1 in the 34th minute, Copenhagen didn't put up too much resistance for the remainder of the game.

Despite the win, City saw two of their attackers, Jack Grealish and Silva, exit the game with injuries. Grealish only played 21 minutes before a groin problem forced him out. Silva suffered a heavy knock to his ankle in the second half.

"I didn't speak with the doctor, but it looks muscular with Jack," Pep Guardiola, manager of City, said after the game. "The last few days, his mood in training was much better. He felt it on the grass and started to complain. The players can feel it immediately if it's muscular. He wanted to continue, but we didn't want to make the damage even worse. We'll take tests tomorrow [Wednesday]. Bernardo has a big knock on his ankle."

Real secured a close win over RB Leipzig at Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, Germany. Brahim Diaz scored the only goal of the game in the 48th minute and celebrated it with his teammate Jude Bellingham's signature move. Bellingham didn't play on Tuesday because of a sprained ankle.

"I love [Bellingham]," Diaz told Movistar after the game. "From the first moment, we've got on really well. I'm helping him with his Spanish. He's a world-class player. I enjoy playing with him. Apart from the charisma he has, he's a great person."

Unfortunately, Diaz was substituted in the 84th minute and limped off the field, holding his calf in pain. "Honestly, right now I don't know; I'm not going to lie to you," he said after the game. "I've noticed a blow, and I don't know if the soleus went up or what happened. I guess tomorrow I'll get tested and hope that it won't be anything."
