The Shendi Take-1 well, China's first well aiming at a depth of more than 10,000 meters for scientific purposes, was drilled to a depth of 9,900 meters on February 13. The well is located in the hinterland of the Taklamakan Desert in the Tarim Basin, which is rich in ultra-deep oil and gas and accounts for more than half of China's ultra-deep resources. It is expected that the well will open a treasure trove after the breakthrough, as abundant oil and gas resources may be buried at a depth of 10,000 meters, according to geological surveys.
