The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important traditional festival for the Chinese people. In addition to the main venue in Beijing, this year's CMG Spring Festival Gala featured performances from sites in Shenyang, Changsha, Xi'an and Kashgar.

Jiang Haitao, a student from Beijing Foreign Studies University, is enjoying the New Year holiday in his hometown of Changsha, the capital city of central China's Hunan Province. During the festive season, people around China use folk activities to express their good wishes for the coming year. He visits a local temple fair, also known as "miaohui" in Chinese, a traditional cultural event that typically takes place around temples or historic sites during important festivals. Here, people can find many stalls featuring traditional fans, sugar-blowing art, sugar paintings and various decorations.
