Editor's Note: A "pioneering spirit" characterizes the China-Switzerland relations, from the first Sino-Swiss joint venture in the 1980s to the free trade agreement in 2014. Although both countries are poles apart in terms of size and population, both believe in pragmatic, win-win cooperation and multilateralism based on trust and mutual respect, and are firmly opposed to protectionism. In this edition of Leaders Talk, CMG's Zou Yun sat down in Switzerland with Guy Parmelin, Swiss Federal Councilor and head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, to discuss the future of China-Switzerland cooperation in emerging fields such as AI and new/high-tech, but also in traditional sectors from vocational education and precision manufacturing. In an increasingly uncertain world, Parmelin believes in trade fairness and in multilateral dialogue and says that as a neutral country, Switzerland is "more than willing" to help solve conflicts.
