China is willing to work with Germany to understand and support each other, enhance mutual trust, and strengthen collaboration to jointly provide more stability and certainty to the world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Amid the current chaotic international situation with rising hotspot issues and sluggish global economic recovery, China, as a responsible major country, will stand firm as a pillar of stability in a turbulent world, Wang said.

Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Germany all-round strategic partnership, Wang called on both sides to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, achieve complementary advantages, and benefit the two peoples.

China is advancing its modernization with high-quality development and high-level opening up, which will provide a broader market for countries including Germany and bring more development opportunities, he said.

The two sides should eliminate interference, continue to adhere to openness and free trade, give full play to the role of economic and trade cooperation as the "ballast," and provide a predictable policy environment, said Wang.

For his part, Scholz said Germany stands ready to prepare for high-level exchanges with China this year to promote the achievement of more substantive results.

The German economy is deeply integrated into globalization, and its development benefits from free trade, Scholz said, adding that his country opposes protectionism and decoupling, and is willing to provide a business environment of high quality for companies from other countries in Germany.

He also pledged to work with China to play a positive role in maintaining peace and stability.
