Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday called for the early resumption of negotiations on the Ukraine crisis.
Asked about China's position on the Ukraine issue during the "China in the World" session at the ongoing Munich Security Conference, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said, "Even if it is restarted only a day earlier, the losses on all sides will be reduced."
Stressing that China has been working tirelessly to promote Ukraine peace talks and has played an active role in the restoration of peace, Wang said, "As long as there is a glimmer of hope for peace, we will not give up."
He also reiterated China's position on the issue, including respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, upholding the purpose and principles of the UN Charter, taking the legitimate security concerns of all countries seriously and supporting all efforts conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
China is neither the creator nor a party involved in the Ukraine crisis, but it has neither sat back and watched idly nor taken advantage of the crisis to make profits, Wang said.
When asked about China's views on the Budapest Memorandum, he said China was not a signatory to the Budapest Memorandum at that time but recognized the validity of the memorandum by means of a government statement.
China's nuclear policy is the clearest and most advanced among nuclear-armed states, Wang said, adding China is committed to not using nuclear weapons first or against any non-nuclear state, which of course includes Ukraine.
