Family members of the mainland fishermen will travel to Kinmen on Tuesday to take the two fishermen home, who were forcibly detained by the Taiwan authorities after a fatal expulsion of their fishing boat, and deal with relevant issues, a Chinese mainland spokesperson announced on Monday.
They will be accompanied by Quanzhou Red Cross personnel, the spokesperson added, saying the decision was made after communications between Fujian and Quanzhou officials and the family members of the fishermen.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks concerning the incident that took place on February 14, in which the fishing boat from the southeastern Fujian Province was expelled from the waters of Kinmen. The incident led to all four aboard falling into the sea, two of whom died.
Zhu noted that the Taiwan side should provide convenience for the crew members and their families to handle related issues, in order not to further hurt the feelings of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
