Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Spain has been a success, highlighting the strategic stability in bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday.

No matter how the international situation changes, the two countries have always maintained the tradition of mutual respect, mutual trust, equal treatment and win-win cooperation, grown relations with stable and friendly policies, and supported each other's core interests and major concerns, Mao told a regular press briefing in Beijing.

In his first overseas visit after the Chinese New Year on February 10, Wang met with Spanish King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Sunday and held talks and a joint press conference with Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno on Saturday.

Wang's two-day visit was the first visit to Spain by a Chinese foreign minister in six years, said Mao.

The visit, aimed at implementing the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, has created a good start for another 50 years of China-Spain relations, said Mao. The two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023.

The Chinese foreign minister was warmly received by the Spanish side, said Mao. "It has met the expected goal and is a complete success."

During the visit, the two sides reiterated their commitment to openness and cooperation and agreed to boost cooperation in areas such as telecommunications, health care, electric vehicles and green energy.

Mao said the visit has also shown broad prospects of openness and cooperation, and the two sides also agreed to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Both sides have reiterated their readiness to work together to address global challenges and promote the sound, stable development of China-EU relations to inject more stability into the turbulent world, she said.
