Yangge is a form of Chinese folk dance popular in both the rural and urban areas of northern China. Fifteen Yangge dance troupes in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, gathered in a public square to compete and compare their dance skills, either in linear or circular formations, as part of the city’s Spring Festival celebrations. With its uplifting drum beats and festive melodies, Yangge dance is especially popular among the elderly and a great form of exercise.
